Three Committee Structure

CSSGA is a Committee based and driven association which encourages active member participation with the following three committees:

Legislative Committee: This Committee is very active during the Legislative Session between January and May. During the session the group typically meets every Monday morning at 8:00 AM in the Capitol with the CSSGA lobbying team, Managing Director, and interested members. Producer and Associate members are invited to participate on this Committee even if they cannot attend all of the meetings. The Committee’s work is critical to our industry as we seek to maintain a balanced presence with policy-makers; the long- term consequences are too important not to be involved with the Governor and the Legislature.

Legislative Breakfast Programs – the leadership of CSSGA recently decided to re-institute this popular breakfast program where legislative leaders, regulatory representatives, and members of the Governors administration are invited to visit with members of CSSGA. This program will commence in January of 2009. (See Calendar for Schedule)

Land, Use and Environment Committee: This is our “regulatory” committee. The focus of the Com- mittee is as diverse and wide-spread as the various regulatory issues impacting the Aggregate Industry: land use, permit- ting for new plant operations, equipment permitting, water discharge/storage/augmentation/testing, air permitting/ RAQC (Regional Air Quality Commission), etc.

The Committee normally meets every other month on the third Friday of the month and usually a guest speaker from one of the regulatory or cabinet agencies attends the meeting with a discussion of a topical issue. The next meeting of this group will be on Friday, November 14 from 9:30 to 11:30. During the annual legislative session, the Committee will probably meet monthly especially if controversial issues impacting the aggregate industry are in-play. (See Calendar for Schedule)

Safety Committee: The Safety Committee is meeting on the third Tuesday of each month from 11:30 to 1:30 at various member locations. (See Calendar for Schedule)

Safety is an essential and critically important attribute of any mining operation. All of CSSGA’s producer members are focused on worker safety with a safe and well managed plant operation. This Committee has a strong working relationship with numerous agencies including: MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration), OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), and CDOT (Colorado Department of Transportation). In 2000 the Committee created the MSHA (Part 46) New Miner Training CD. This excellent instructional video is in its third edition and it continues to receive national recognition from MSHA and other industry associations.
